Life as a Puppy Rasier for Guide Dogs of America

Volunteer Puppy Raisers are an essential part of our training program at Guide Dogs of America | Tender Loving Canines. Every successful guide dog and service dog team had a Puppy Raiser who gave them plenty of love, taught them basic skills and provided experiences to allow them to feel safe in the world. Guide and service dog puppies are placed with carefully screened foster families and individuals, known as “puppy raisers,” when they are 8 weeks old, learning proper house manners, basic obedience, and providing experiences that will give them confidence in the world during the first year of their life. At any given time, we have 150-200 puppies in homes. |

Understanding the Ballot Measures Pros & Cons

The League of Women Voters, a non-partisan political organization, encourages informed and active participation in government, works to increase understanding of major public policy issues, and influences public policy through education and advocacy. Camille will be educating us on the upcoming ballot measures. |

Glendale Youth Alliance (GYA)

The Glendale Youth Alliance (GYA) is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization and a partnership between government, education, businesses and our community. Community leaders established GYA in 1993 with a mission to provide jobs and employment preparedness training for low-income youth ages 14-24. Glendale Youth Alliance currently operates six programs on a spectrum that provide mentored employment to youth. These range from a program that gives subsidized jobs to the youngest youth who have never held a job, to a program for older youth who are ready to secure unsubsidized employment. GYA programs make special efforts in assisting youth with further barriers to employment such as foster youth, youth with disabilities, parenting youth and youth who are on probation. These groups generally have a harder time in entering the workforce. GYA not only provides employment opportunities for these youth, but comprehensive services to meet their human needs. |
