Glendale Sunrise Rotarian David DiJulio was installed as President of the Italian American Lawyers Association of Los Angeles by LA CountyJudge and presiding officer Maureen Duffy Lewis on January 31, 2015 at the California Club in downtown Los Angeles.

The following are David DiJulio's condensed acceptance remarks.
I am honored and humbled to be your President. I am reminded of the adage: the second best day of my life was the day I bought my boat ---- the best was the day I sold it. This may be Immediate Past President Damian’s best day.

We all grew up with the Corelone family - the Godfather and Sonny. We were proud of the Godfather’s power and romanced by the rich family history. My father warned me to avoid the Mob but the Coppola drew me back in.
Remember when every Italian wedding was like Sonny Corelene’s? Is there anyone of us who didn’t think the Consigliore was the coolest one of all? He was on the inside, had power but like most attorneys - he never got his hands dirty.
The Godfather was cool and we picked up the lingo.
How is it we don’t see that the wise guys aren’t cool and they hurt us and all that we have worked so hard for. Is this why you grandfather and grandmother came to America?
I owe this awakening to, America’s favorite Italian Mother, Doris Roberts. She was at a dinner meeting at the CASA and said to me, it is a shame that Hollywood gives Italian such a poor image.
And the light bulb went off. Doris is here tonight, Please stand and let us give you a standing ovation for being a positive part of the Italian family.
We started talking and here we are. We are making the theme come alive be featuring promenate Italians who are making positive contributions to our country. We are leading off on FEB 11th, with Ned Colletti GM and VP of your Los Angeles Dodgers. Then on April 15, 2015, we will have Janet Napolitano former homeland Secretary and current UC President. In June we have the Mike and Marianne Gatto. We have been working to get the Louis Zamberini story told at and dinner meeting. Of course we will have the every popular Macro Polo, Wine Tasting and Supreme Court nights.
This year will be year where we can all rally around a common cause and pull together. IALA can be the place to be, the meeting not to be missed. I know you can do it.
Of course, a President does not do anything alone. So I would like to recognize and thank; Tamera my wife and supporter Barbara Morse, my mother in law from Montana, Douglas my brother and his wife Sylvia. The DLG office: Ken Choi and Barbara, Dan Cantor. All those that worked tonight and finally, Bula Mae DiJulio who at 96 can’t be here tonight, but who 70 years ago this Tuesday, gave birth to your 2015 President. Thanks for a Great Birthday Party. You look great and make IALA look great, stand and give yourselves a round of applause. Thank you.
Thanks to everyone for their concern and well wishes about Kate. She was in and out of the hospital over the course of a week with an antibiotic resistant infection in her hand. They finally got it under control and Kate is recovering quickly and has been back to work for a couple of days.

The AMBASSADORIAL SCHOLARSHIPS program of Rotary International
At least three Glendale Sunrise Rotarians have benefited from this program. Can you name them and what country did they visit for their studies?
The Rotary Foundation Ambassadorial Scholarships Program is the world's largest privately funded international scholarships program. In 1947, 18 "Rotary Fellows" from 11 countries were selected to serve as ambassadors of goodwill while studying in another country for one academic year. Since that time, approximately $242 million has been expended on some 25,000 scholarships for people from more than 125 countries, studying in 105 countries around the world.
The purpose of the Scholarships Program is to further international understanding and friendly relations among people of different countries. Scholars are expected to be outstanding ambassadors of goodwill to the people of the host country through both informal and formal appearances before Rotary and non-Rotary groups.
Beginning with the 1994-95 program year, The Rotary Foundation offers two new types of scholarships in addition to the Academic-Year Ambassadorial Scholarship offered since 1947. The Multi-Year Ambassadorial Scholarship is awarded for two or three years of specific degree-oriented study abroad. The Cultural Ambassadorial Scholarship provides three or six months of funding for intensive language study and cultural immersion in a language other than their native language.
Rotarians know that Rotary Foundation scholarships are very worthwhile investments in the future and one important step in seeking greater understanding and goodwill in the world.
