Outreach Program

Chris Romero has worked in nonprofit for over 20 years and has been in meal packaging for over 8 years, partnering with Rotary clubs and groups all over the West Coast.
A three-time AmeriCorps alum, he’s managed volunteer programs and nonprofit events for a variety of great organizations including KaBOOM!, the YMCA and the Susan G Komen Breast Cancer 3-Day Walk.

Chris has a passion for introducing students to volunteerism and bringing communities together around critical needs projects. Through different meal packaging programs, he has helped groups package and donate over 12 million meals to domestic and international feeding organizations.

A nonprofit founded by Floyd and Kathy Hammer in 2004, The Outreach Program developed a high-protein vitamin-rich meal as a way to combat malnutrition in Tanzania. This included engineering the hands-on meal packaging process as a way to engage volunteers in hunger relief.  Three years later, new meals designed for US families were added as a way to help address domestic food insecurity. Altogether, Outreach has helped tens of thousands of volunteers come together and provide over 600 million meals to US feeding organizations and food banks.
