North LA County Chapter -Inaugural Meeting In 1911, Paul Harris, the founder of Rotary, wrote an article entitled “Rational Rotarianism” which can be summarized as follows: “Life in Rotary should be a rational mixture of business, civic activities, and good fellowship.” Rotary Means Business Fellowship was created to encourage Rotarians to network among themselves and to find ways to do business and support each other. An original intent of Rotary was for like-minded business professionals to amplify their fellowship and through association strengthen businesses as well as their communities. Rotarians in the 63 Rotary clubs of Northeast Florida District 6970 continue to build on those core principles put in place over 100 years ago. After all, who would you rather do business with?
Rotary Means Business (RMB) encourages Rotarians to support the success of their fellow Rotarians by doing business with them, and by referring others to them. We share a common belief that we should honor the roots of our great worldwide organization and support one another in business guided by the core principles of Rotary. RMB provides a structure to bring business relationships back into Rotary in a way that supplements rather than competes with the service and fellowship aspects of our clubs. When we are able to provide opportunities to strengthen the businesses represented in Rotary, our members will be stronger, thus creating stronger clubs. In addition, we encourage Rotarians to bring guest to these meetings, which WILL increase the membership of your individual clubs.

Money and Philanthropy
Dec. 06, 2019
Rennie will discuss five main points in his powerful presentatin:
1. We need to have a purpose bigger than the dollar to create wealth
2. We have been programmed to believe the poor are noble and the wealthy are heartless
3. It is never too late to start on the road to wealth
4. The wealthiest people are the biggest philanthropists
5. You must take care of yourself before you can take care of others
Rennie went from broke at age 50 to multi-millionaire in a few years while only earning $5,000 per month. He now lives on his investment income and donates 100% of his book, training and coaching profits to www.ShelterToSoldier.org where dogs are rescued from deadly environments and trained as service animals for post 9/11 soldiers who have returned with Post Traumatic Stress (PTSD) and Traumatic Brain Injuries (TBI).

Celebrating and Serving the CommunityAngel City Celebration is the largest Rotary service project in the Greater Los Angeles Area. Led by Rotary Club of Los Angeles (LA5) in partnership with District 5280 and Rotarians from rotary clubs of District, the project started 10 years ago, evolving from a simple toys and food giveaway in a church parking lot to a park-sized event featuring a resource and health fair, book fair and many other activities to improve quality of life for underserved families with young children in South LA. The mission of the Angel City Celebration is always the same: empower our neighbors in South LA with knowledge of preventive healthcare and provide wellness check-ups; bring joy to the young children with toys and books; and educate parents on how to access after school activities that offer their youth an alternative to gangs. Throughout its 10-year history, though, one the most pleasing by-products of the Celebration are the smiles: smiles of happiness on the faces of 3,000 plus children who receive toys they only dreamed of, smiles of relief on the faces of parents who can now provide their children with these toys as well as gifts of reading and improved health, and smiles of holiday joy on the faces of the 500 volunteers who are essential to making all this happen year after year. Partnering with both LA City and County Parks Departments, Angel City Celebration has rotated among several parks in South LA. The 2019 Angel City Celebration will be at Jesse Owens Park, 9651 S. Western Ave, Los Angeles, CA 90047, on Saturday, December 7, 2019. |

Census 2020: Count everybody once, only once, and in the right place!
Dec. 20, 2019
It is critical that we get an accurate count of every person residing in the City of Glendale. This number will determine our fair share of the yearly federal budget of $675 billion each year, over the next ten years. This is money that will go to fund so many of our public and social services including: MediCal, Medicare, after school programs, free school lunches, road repairs, libraries, senior centers, homeless programs and more; and we only have one chance every ten years to get it right.
Secondly, the Census will determine how many Congressional House seats we maintain, lose or gain. In essence, the higher the population count, the more and government representation we all can receive. Glendale, in particular, had communities that were heavily undercounted in the 2010 Census, and it is absolutely imperative that we get the word out to our local communities to make sure everyone is counted in 2020. This means U.S. citizens, non-citizens, immigrants, international students, young children and the homeless alike need to be included.
Speaker:
Daniel Lee is the Partnership Specialist for the US Census Bureau, LA County. He was born in Anaheim and raised in Riverside County. He moved to Seoul, South Korea after high school where he studied on international issues such as North Korea for the next 15 years. He returned to the U.S. and worked in Congress in Washington DC and for local elected officials before moving back to Los Angeles where he now works to promote the 2020 Census. He hopes to one day help improve bi-lateral relations between North and South Korea and reunify the two countries. Daniel has a wide range of experience from academics, broadcasting, voice acting and government. |

Musical Theatre Guild
Jan. 31, 2020
After graduating from Brigham Young University in 2006 with a BFA in Music Dance Theatre, Jeffrey moved to Los Angeles to begin working as a professional theatre actor. Over the past decade, he has established himself as a true triple threat in Southern California, singing, dancing, and acting in roles like Bobby Child in CRAZY FOR YOU (San Diego Musical Theatre and Moonlight Amphitheatre), Phil Davis in WHITE CHRISTMAS (Musical Theatre West and San Diego Musical Theatre), and Riff in WEST SIDE STORY (Performance Riverside). As the Emcee in CABARET (Welk Resort) he was nominated by the San Diego Critics Circle for Best Leading Performance. His one man show COMFY was awarded the 2018 Billy Barnes Award for Best Cabaret Performance. In addition, from 2013 to 2019, he was employed by the Walt Disney Company as a singer/dancer at their California parks. In 2013, Jeffrey became a member of Musical Theatre Guild, and in 2015, he began efforts to expand their education outreach in connection to their season of one night only staged events. By cultivating relationships with educators all around the greater LA area, Jeffrey visits hundreds of students in their classrooms each year, introducing many to the musical theatre art form for very first time. These visits then become invitations as Musical Theatre Guild provides those same students with free tickets to attend their seldom seen musical productions at the historic Alex Theatre in downtown Glendale, CA.

Do you like the Blues? Do you like downhome cooking? How about beer and wine? Would you like to spend an evening in a lovely backyard listening to great blues music, eating good food and having a little beer and wine? Do you have some friends you would like to share this with?
We will be having two wonderful bands. Aaron's The Snake Farmers and the Primal Kings.
Then put The Backyard Blues Fest in your calendar for February 22 and be prepared to sell some tickets to your friends.
This will be a fun event and a fundraiser for the good works that our Rotary club does in LA and around the world.
